May 20: From Redwoods to Seacoast

On our way out of the redwoods, we found the drive-through tree. Our oldest took the photo while Dave did the requisite drive-through.

After that, we headed down some very winding roads to MacKerricher State Park. It's a location which really allows you to see the severity of the ocean, with strong breakers that cross and combine to pile up unpredictable, powerful waves.

This was our first look at the coastline on the way to MacKerricher. We came around a corner, and there it was. Dave and the kids took a scramble down a seaside trail. I took a much-needed nap.

We went out to the overlook on the boardwalk at MacKerricher and watched the sun sink--not into the ocean, but into the soft fog haze that makes the California coast and the sea seem to fade and blend into the sky itself. Then the mist drifted in with the evening, and we drifted off bedwards.

Gorgeous--I have always wanted to see those up close (still do).

And the coastline. Have never been to the west coast, wow, stunning.
